Stevenson-Weir/Southern, LLC is a third-generation concrete, hauling, and building materials company forged from the partnership of two long-standing service leaders in our industry. The collaboration of Stevenson-Weir Concrete of upstate South Carolina with Southern Concrete Materials’ Eastern Division of North Carolina brings together both companies’ widespread resources to serve the Carolinas—and especially the Charlotte region—with an unmatched commitment to the founders’ values of integrity and service excellence.
Today, Stevenson-Weir/Southern markets and supplies ready-mix concrete, aggregate hauling, and building materials throughout North and South Carolina. We support industrial, commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects with the same focus on reliability, quality, and long-term relationships.

The future is bright. A fourth generation—eight girls—is already growing up around the business, just as the prior two generations did. The company continues to invest in people, plants, and equipment so we can serve our customers and communities for decades to come.
History
Our history began as a small fuel and home heating business in Great Falls, South Carolina, and grew into a multi-plant concrete and materials operation serving two states.
From fuel and home heat to concrete
In 1948, shortly after American G.I.s returned home from World War II, the Weir Fuel Company began selling home heating products like wood, coal, and oil in Great Falls, SC, to warm their growing families. Recognizing the future growth of the region, founders Mr. and Mrs. L.S. “Eel” Weir built a concrete batch plant in 1954 to meet the area’s construction needs. This was also the year their youngest daughter and future second-generation owner, Martha, was born.
In the mid-1970s, newlyweds Martha Weir and Mike Stevenson returned home to work in the business and raise a family. In 1984, they purchased the ready-mix concrete and home oil delivery portions of the company and renamed it Stevenson-Weir Oil Company.
Growth, diversification, and new locations
As the company grew under Martha and Mike’s leadership, it expanded into hauling materials and briefly into septic tank fabrication, while eventually ceasing the original heating oil delivery business. Stevenson-Weir incorporated in 2001 and soon after welcomed the couple’s sons, Stuart and Kendrick, into the family business.
In 2006, Stevenson-Weir opened its Rock Hill location and added brick, block, and mortar sales to its list of products and services. Daughter and daughter-in-law Shannon and Carol left full-time careers in healthcare in 2007 to support the expansion of this family operation.

Weir Fuel Company founded
Weir Fuel Company begins selling wood, coal, and oil in Great Falls, SC, providing home heating products to returning G.I.s and growing families.
First concrete plant installed
Mr. and Mrs. Weir build a concrete batch plant to support regional construction needs, marking the company’s move into ready-mix concrete.
Expansion into Wateree Concrete
The company partners with L.O. Funderburk to start Wateree Concrete Co., expanding its reach and capabilities in the concrete industry.
Wateree Concrete sold
Wateree Concrete is sold to Camden Concrete, as the family prepares for the next phase of its business journey.
Second generation returns
Mike and Martha Stevenson return home to work in the family business and begin expanding into precast septic tanks and additional services.
Stevenson-Weir Oil Company formed
Mike and Martha acquire the ready-mix concrete and home oil delivery operations and rename the business Stevenson-Weir Oil Company.
Transition from fuel to concrete
The fuel business is sold, and the company focuses on concrete and related services, operating as Stevenson-Weir.
Stevenson-Weir Inc. incorporated
Stevenson-Weir Inc. is formally incorporated, and the company continues to grow its hauling and concrete operations.
Rock Hill plant opens
The Rock Hill location opens and brick, block, and mortar sales are added, further expanding the company’s product line.
Trucking and plant expansion
Stevenson-Weir purchases the assets of Robert O’Helms Trucking Co. and constructs a second plant at the Rock Hill location.
Richburg and Monroe plants added
The Richburg and Monroe plants are purchased from Cemex, extending the company’s footprint and service capacity.
New plants in Clover, Concord, and Denver
Clover Plant opens in April 2017, the Concord (Bonds) plant opens in February 2018, and the Denver plant opens in February 2019, strengthening coverage in the greater Charlotte region.
On-site concrete company founded
Stuart and Kendrick found Stevenson-Weir Companies, an on-site concrete company, further diversifying the family’s concrete operations.
Stevenson-Weir/Southern, LLC established
Stevenson-Weir Inc., Stevenson-Weir Companies, and the Eastern Region of Southern Concrete Materials merge to become Stevenson-Weir/Southern, LLC, adding six concrete plants and the assets of Charlotte Block Inc. to support the booming growth of the Charlotte area.
